School Board Meeting

BOARD MEETING NOTES
February 10, 2010

The regular school board meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. on February 10, 2010 by Chairman Keith Materi. Members present were Lee Loberg, Brenda Upton, Maureen Grubbs and Debra Helwig. Also in attendance were Superintendent Troy Claycomb, Principals Gary Glodt and Clark Coberly, Eileen Schiller and a group of parents, students and teachers.

Maureen Grubbs led the group in the pledge to the flag.

The agenda for the evening was presented and approved with no changes being noted.

In the regular order of business the consent agenda, consisting of the January regular and executive meeting minutes and the February 4 special meeting minutes and the February disbursements, was approved; a second reading and approval of Policy JQ and several other policies were reviewed with no changes being noted.

Bids for the telephone/intercom system upgrade at the elementary building and the replacement of the gym flooring at the elementary building were reviewed. Bids from ExeBusiness for the phone system and from Performance Surfaces for the flooring were recommended and approved.

Principals' reports included enrollment, honor roll and attendance statistics; upcoming events; and Rising Stars of the West presentation to be given .

Student recognition included elementary/middle school students of the month, K through 8th grade respectively, Kadence Abbott, Jensen Edwards, Gregory Bechel, Taedra Elliott, Josie Olson, Jade Davey, Clover Rhoden, Hali Materi and Cheyenne Hansen. Middle school science fair participants qualifying for state are Savannah Silbaugh, Kierra Brown and Bailey Parrish. High school students of the month are Shannon Donohoe, Brianna Hagerman, Kevin Hart and Kayla Leingang. FFA students and sponsor Andrea Driskill were present to report on FFA activities which promote agriculture in the classroom.

Superintendent Claycomb reported on problems with the elevator at the high school and the cost of repairs. He also reported on the ARRA funds approved and how these funds will be spent.

After an executive session to discuss personnel and property, administrative contracts for the 2010-2011 year were acted on.
