School Improvement & Mission/Vision

Welcome

Dear Parents/Guardians and Students:

The staff and administration of Weston County School District No. 7 Elementary School wish to welcome you to the 2016-2017 school year.  As we approach the beginning of a new school year, I would personally like to take this opportunity to welcome all of you.  For many, it is a greeting extended to old friends; to others it is an introduction and an invitation.  To all, it constitutes a pledge of continued efforts to provide the best possible education to the children of our school.

Our school can take pride in its highly qualified and dedicated faculty.  These educators welcome your concern, and they view education as a partnership between home and school.  If there is anything we can do to help your child, please do not hesitate to call and set up an appointment to meet.  I do ask you to first, discuss any concerns that you may have with the person that you have a concern with, and then contact me if you have not come to a resolution.  Our goal as a staff remains to provide the best possible education for each student.

Please read the handbook completely and familiarize yourself with the contents.  If you have any questions after your review, please contact the office at 468-9331.  This handbook is not intended to be all-inclusive.  There will be situations and circumstances that will arise that are unanticipated.  When more information is necessary, you will be contacted.

Sincerely,

Clark Coberly, Principal
Dr. Summer Stephens, Superintendent

UPTON ELEMENTARY/MIDDLE SCHOOL

The current elementary building was built in 1992 and houses students of Weston County School District #7 from kindergarten to 8th grade.  The building is also home to the LaVerne Boal Auditorium which is used for all of the district’s fine arts performances and system wide assemblies.
The mission of the school is “We are a student centered community striving for educational excellence”.  Upton Elementary/Middle School is operating as a Professional Learning Community.  As a PLC the staff collaborates to provide a focused and meaningful educational program for our students.  Teams of teachers meet to write and revise essential skills for reading, writing and mathematics.  Assessment results are utilized to instructionally group students and plan daily interventions to improve student achievement.  Upton Elementary/Middle School is fully accredited by NCA.  Our efforts as a PLC allow us to better monitor the progress of our NCA goals which are improving reading comprehension and problem solving in mathematics.
Recent technology enhancements in the school include SMART Boards, document projectors in many classrooms and over 50 computers available to the students in the library and computer lab.  A science lab was also added in the middle school wing of the building.
The staff at Upton Elementary/Middle School is highly qualified as defined by federal, state and district rules.  We encourage active parent involvement to work as partners in their child’s education.  Parent Advisory Council meetings are held quarterly at the school and all parents are invited to participate.
